A headline price is only a starting point

Ask for the amount due at the start and the cost of continuing care. Have the answer put in writing. A monthly fee is easier to compare once its contents are clear.

A September 2026 check of six large national online weight-care services found five selling monthly memberships. All five charged for medicine separately. The sixth sold visits without a membership.

This small sample looked at advertised fees. It was not a survey of Chicago prices or bills people actually paid.

Ask whether your own quote has a membership fee and whether medicine costs extra.

Ask for the visit charge, medicine charge, any tests and any continuing fee. Add delivery and supplies to the questions. Find out which items the quoted amount includes.

Ask what the next bill looks like after an introductory offer. Ask about cancellation, refund terms and any commitment before agreeing to a package.

Use price context carefully

For brand-name weight and diabetes medicines, the maker’s cash offer is a price for paying without insurance. Your insurance may leave you with a different bill. The published list price is the maker’s stated price before discounts; it does not tell you what you will pay.

Strength means how much of the medicine’s working ingredient is present. Ask which strength and refill price your quote uses.

In September 2026, medicine makers advertised cash prices mostly from about $149 to $499 a month across several approved weight and diabetes medicines. The product and its strength determined the price. Some later refills could cost more.

That broad range includes pills and shots. It is not a price range for shots alone, and your care would need its own quote.

For a shot example, the maker advertised Wegovy (semaglutide) pens at $199 a month for the first two monthly fills for new patients at the starting strengths. The offer ran through December 31, 2026. The price after those fills was $349 a month for the usual strengths, or $399 for the higher-strength pen, in September 2026.

In September 2026, medicine makers did not all use “one month” to mean the same package. Some packages came as boxed pens or bottled pills; others covered 28 days.

Ask how many pens, vials or pills are included and how many days they cover. A vial is a small medicine bottle. Ask the pharmacist to explain whether a pen or vial holds one shot or more.

Compare like with like

Put the same product, the same package and the same period beside each other. A drug-only figure and a full care fee answer different questions.

A lower bill does not explain why a custom-made medicine is being offered. Ask for both the cost and the medical reason.
