What “peptide” means

Picture a short string of beads. A peptide is a tiny chain of parts. Proteins use those same parts. Insulin is an example of a peptide medicine.

The word describes the makeup of a substance. It gives no answer about a treatment’s purpose.

Start with a name and a purpose

Ask for the full medicine name in writing. Add the reason it is being offered. “For energy” is a goal to discuss, not a clear product name.

Ask the person who would prescribe the medicine how they would tell whether it helped. Write that answer beside the medicine name. Bring both to your next visit.

Put the product in the right group

FDA is short for Food and Drug Administration, the federal medicine-review agency.

In September 2026, the useful split is between approved drugs, preparations made to order and unapproved drugs.

Compounding is the process of preparing a medicine to order for an individual patient.

As of September 2026, a medicine made this way is not an FDA-approved version of a brand-name drug.

Turn a broad goal into a useful question

Try asking what condition is being assessed and what other options belong in the discussion. Ask why an injection has been proposed. Write down the answer in ordinary words.

There is no need to arrive knowing the science. A clear name and a clear purpose are a good place to begin.
